COVID-19 infections rising throughout Tennessee, continuing months-long trend

COVID-19 infections continued to rise throughout Tennessee last week, continuing an upward trend that has been ongoing since March.

As of Saturday, the seven-day average for infections in Tennessee was 1,866, up from the previous week's 1,616 average, according to the state Department of Health. Confirmed cases in Davidson County also rose — a seven-day average of 239.9 as of Saturday, up from the prior week's 199.

Hospitalized patients with COVID-19 also continued to rise last week. As of Saturday, the number was 408, up from 338 the previous week.

Tennessee's seven-day average test-positivity rate (the rate of people who have been tested and are positive for COVID-19) was 21.26%, an uptick from the previous week's 20.66%.

In Davidson County, the test-positivity rate was 23%, up from the previous week's 20.7%.

State public health agencies have counted more than 2.08 million cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee since the start of the pandemic. In the state, 26,539 people have died as a result of the novel coronavirus.

About 54.9% of Tennesseans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The national average is 66.8%.
