COVID-19 school dashboard: Monroe County cases declining after omicron surge

COVID-19 cases in Monroe County schools dropped last week, with many reporting zero new student cases and almost all reporting fewer cases than the previous week.

Around Indiana, 13,983 new student cases were reported in the most recent update of the school tab on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, declining by about 2,300 cases from the previous week.

There were 838 new cases reported among teachers, along with 1,211 new staff cases since the last dashboard update. This school year, 114,576 student cases have been reported in Indiana as the delta and omicron variants spread across the area, while 35,861 cases were reported all of last school year.

Locally, the Monroe County Community School Corp., Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. and other schools are following suit, now reporting lower numbers in students, teachers and staff.

MCCSC

As part of a change in COVID-19 policy approved by the MCCSC school board Jan. 25, the district is longer providing its own school-by-school COVID-19 data on its website, providing additional details such as if cases were reported in or outside school buildings. MCCSC, along with other Monroe County schools, will continue to provide updates to the state dashboard, which updates weekly on Mondays.

A total number of new cases within MCCSC schools can no longer be calculated because schools reporting fewer than five positive cases have their data suppressed to protect privacy on the state dashboard. Additionally, cases specific to the Hoosier Hills Career Center, the Hoosier Hills Career Center’s Child Care Center and the Early Learning Center can not be accessed on the state dashboard.

On the dashboard, just the positive cases are reported, not the number of students and staff quarantined. As of Monday's update:

  • Arlington Heights Elementary reported no new positive COVID-19 cases.

  • Binford Elementary reported fewer than five new student cases.
