Indiana continues to see a surge of coronavirus cases, and Monroe County schools were still reporting new positive tests last week as it headed into the winter break from classes, topped by eight new student cases at Seven Oaks Classical School.

Around the state, 3,665 new student positive test case reports were added in the most recent update of the COVID-19 school dashboard. Some of the new reports came from case in previous weeks.

There were 237 new case reports among the state's teachers, while there 380 new ones in school staff included in the most recent update of the dashboard.

MCCSC

While all MCCSC schools are reporting data to the state, more specific data can also be found through the district's website on its COVID-19 Information and Impact Page by clicking MCCSC COVID-19 Data for 2021-2022 School Year to download the list.

Cases are sorted by individuals who have been in a school building, those not in a building and those involved with extracurriculars only. The numbers reported on MCCSC’s website include cases among students and staff combined, and while the state’s COVID-19 school dashboard separates cases among students, teachers and staff, schools reporting fewer than five positive cases have their data suppressed to protect privacy.

From MCCSC’s own data, from Dec. 11 through Dec. 17, the most recent data available when The Herald-Times reported this story, the district reported 20 new COVID-19 cases among students and staff who were in school buildings, or more specifically, among individuals who were present in a school building within 48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms or a positive test.

During that time period, nine new COVID-19 cases among students and staff were reported among individuals out of school buildings for the 48 hours prior to the onset of symptoms or a positive test.

Data is broken down by day on MCCSC’s chart, but here’s an overview of what the week shows:

  • Arlington Heights Elementary had four in-building cases.

  • Childs Elementary had one case not in the building.

  • Clear Creek Elementary had one case in the building and one outside.

  • Grandview Elementary had one case in the building.

  • Highland Park Elementary had one case outside of the building.

  • Lakeview Elementary had two cases in the building and one not in the building.
