COVID-19 Test Facility Moved To New Location In Danbury

DANBURY, CT — The city has shifted a COVID-19 testing site to a location that promises a more manageable traffic situation.

The Pat Waldron Veteran Hall site, at 23 Memorial Drive, will be performing COVID-19 tests from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. It replaces the site on Memorial Drive, which was often unable to accommodate the length of the cars lining up for tests.

No appointments are needed for the drive-thru/walk-up testing at the hall, but tests are administered on a first come, first served basis. Officials plan to administer a maximum of 700 PCR tests per day. Test results will be emailed to residents.

The COVID-19 infection rate, which a couple of weeks ago had exceeded 28 percent in Connecticut, is now down to 17 percent in the latest update from the state Department of Public Health. The number of hospitalizations continues its recent trend of declining slowly statewide, down another 38 beds on Monday afternoon.

Danbury had 241.8 average daily cases per 100,000 residents and a positive test rate of 34.30 percent between Dec. 26 and Jan. 8, according to DPH. There were 154.4 average daily cases per 100,000 residents in the previous two-week reporting period.
