COVID cases high all over Tri-State

Dec. 9—ASHLAND — The holiday season has brought with it a rise in COVID-19 in Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Lewis, Lawrence and Greenup counties. The high reading continues down the border with West Virginia into Martin, Pike and Letcher counties.

Statistics from covidactnow.org show these regions are in the high community risk category, meaning the Centers for Disease Control recommends masking indoors.

Boyd County recorded weekly COVID-19 hospital admissions at 21.4 per 100,000. Ten percent of those cases had received bivalent boosters.

Greenup County also reports weekly COVID-19 hospital admissions at 21.4 per 100,000, with the percent of those cases with bivalent boosters up a fraction of a percentage.

In Carter County, the same high community risk level is recorded, with an 8.6% rate of those having had a bivalent booster.

Cases also are high in Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia and Lawrence County, Ohio.

The CDC recommends those testing positive for COVID-19 isolate, mask and avoid contact with people who are high risk for getting sick. Isolation should continue for at least five days. A patient who has trouble breathing should seek emergency medical care immediately.
