COVID cases increasing in Tuscarawas County, state

Tuscarawas County is experiencing its highest weekly new COVID-19 case number since the week ending on Feb. 4, when 255 COVID-19 cases were recorded, according to the Tuscarawas County Health Department.

Tuscarawas County had 224 new cases in the seven-day period ending Thursday compared to 174 new cases in the previous week.

Statewide, new cases have increased, with 26,610 new cases over the past week compared to 24,465 new cases the previous week.

There were 13 new hospitalizations of Tuscarawas County residents with COVID-19 this week compared to 10 last week.

No new COVID-19 related deaths among county residents were reported this week by the Ohio Department of Health's Bureau of Vital Statistics. A total of 508 Tuscarawas County lives have been lost to COVID-19.

There were 548 active cases in the county as of Thursday. A total of 21,879 cases of COVID-19 have been reported among the county's population, which was estimated at 92,500 as of July 2021 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Among Ohio's 88 counties, 76 are currently experiencing medium or high levels of COVID-19 spread. Tuscarawas County among 12 counties that has a low level of COVID-19 transmission.
