New covid cases for Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area tallied for week ending Feb. 16, 2021

Feb. 17—The number of new confirmed covid cases in the Penn-Trafford-Jeannette area held steady this week, with 30 new cases in the seven-day period ending Feb. 16 — the same as the week prior — according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Since the pandemic began in March, the six ZIP codes covering most of the three communities have seen a total of 1,680 confirmed cases as of Feb. 16, up from 1,650 on Feb. 2.

Residents of these six ZIP codes have taken a total of 9,287 coronavirus tests, 18% of which were positive. Since Feb. 9, 129 tests were administered, 23.3% of which were positive.

The breakdown of cases by ZIP code is:

— Jeannette, ZIP code 15644: 903 confirmed cases, 18 new cases this week, 449 probable cases, 4,255 negative test results.

— Trafford, ZIP code 15085: 393 confirmed cases, three new cases this week, 157 probable cases, 1,756 negative test results

— Harrison City: ZIP code 15636, 214 confirmed cases, four new cases this week, 93 probable cases, 861 negative test results

— Manor, ZIP code 15665: 91 confirmed cases, three new case this week, 47 probable cases, 310 negative test results

— Penn Borough, ZIP code 15675: 42 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 31 probable cases, 213 negative test results

— Claridge, ZIP code 15623: 37 confirmed cases, one new case this week, 10 probable cases, 213 negative test results

A significant portion of Penn Township is grouped under the Irwin 15642 ZIP code. That ZIP code has seen a total of 2,535 confirmed cases, up 47 from the week prior.

Penn-Trafford School District has reported a total of 128 covid cases since the school year began, including five new cases reported in the last week.

Westmoreland County has had a total of 18,506 confirmed cases, 7,487 probable cases, 648 covid deaths and 84,598 negative tests since the start of the pandemic.

A large spike in cases in the county began in September and peaked Dec. 10 with 747 positive cases in a single day. Case counts have been declining steadily, but remain well above pre-September levels.
