COVID closed this Boise multiplex movie theater. Exactly one year later, it will open
When the curtain fell at Reel Theatres across the Boise area last fall, it wasn’t supposed to be long-term.
“We hope to reopen in eight weeks,” the regional corporate manager said at the time.
The coronavirus pandemic had other plans. The regional chain managed to relaunch most locations over time, but Country Club Reel Theatre, 4550 W. Overland Road, has remained dark — until now.
One year after it was shuttered, Country Club Reel will reopen for business on Saturday, Oct. 16. That’s one year to the day.
The six-screen multiplex, which shows second-run films, will continue its discount ticket concept: $3 general admission, $1 on Tuesdays.
Country Club Reel’s rebirth has been a long time coming for families who frequent the theater. Reel’s owners are similarly excited.
“As you can imagine,” co-owner Eric Denning said in an email, “reopening each location one at a time has been very difficult with the extended closure creating challenges in equipment failures, building maintenance and, of course, hiring and training staff.
“We are excited to finally be able to reopen our doors, and look forward to seeing those familiar customer faces again shortly!”
Country Club Reel will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The theater is reopening with “Black Widow,” “F9,” “Jungle Cruise,” “Old,” “Paw Patrol: The Movie” and “The Boss Baby: Family Business.”
Country Club Reel’s return leaves just one Reel multiplex still closed in Idaho: Northgate, 6950 W. State St. in Boise — also a discount theater. That building has been put up for sale or lease, according to real estate company Colliers.
“We are moving through each reopening one at a time,” Denning said, “and will now switch our focus to reopening Northgate.”
