After COVID Delay, New Officers Join Gloucester Township Police

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins presented official mission statement plaques, challenge coins, and identification cards to the department’s newest officers on Tuesday, police announced. Images from the ceremony can be seen in the embed below.

Ptl. Anthony Esposito and Ptl. James Evans actually joined the Gloucester Township Police Department several months ago, but did not receive their plaques or challenge coins due to the start of restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ptl. Zachary Blome, Ptl. James Bartleson, and Ptl. Michael Whelan graduated from the Camden County College Police Academy Class last week during a virtual ceremony. They report to the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Professional Standards Bureau's Training Unit, and then to their assigned Field Training Officers.

Harkins, a member of the police academy’s advisory board. During the ceremony, Harkins presented the Camden County College Police Academy Administrator Robert D. Melson Merit Award to Bartleson.

The recipient of this award is recognized and voted upon by their fellow recruits as an individual who most displays those qualities of scholarship and leadership that are indicative of exceptional future professional performance in law enforcement.

Gloucester Township Clerk Nancy Power administered the oaths of office to Ptl. Gary Turner, Ptl. Brian Cogan, Ptl. Dominique Stephens, Ptl. Kyle Syms, Ptl. Shane Ianneli and Recruit Ryan Kosak.

Turner, Kogan, Stephens, and Syms previously worked for other departments, but were recently hired by Gloucester Township. They report to the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Professional Standards Bureau's Training Unit, and then to their assigned Field Training Officers.

Ianneli was a Special Law Enforcement Class 2 at another department, and will be receiving his full time officer certificate in the next few weeks. Kosak will begin his training at the Camden County College Police Academy in the next few weeks.
