COVID hospitalizations at Treasure Coast Cleveland Clinic hospitals low throughout November

The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations at Cleveland Clinic hospitals on the Treasure Coast has remained low in November — with a total of 14 as of Monday, according to a top hospital official.

The 14 hospitalizations at three of the four Cleveland Clinic hospitals on the Treasure Coast compares to 20 on Nov. 15; 19 on Nov. 8; and 24 on Nov. 2.

“Cleveland Clinic’s Treasure Coast hospitals continue to see a stable number of COVID-19 cases requiring hospitalizations,” Dr. Richard Rothman, Institute Chair for Hospital Medicine for Cleveland Clinic Florida region, said via email. “The number of COVID-related hospitalizations have been consistently low throughout November.”

The 14 cases Monday breaks down to: two COVID-19 patients at Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital in Stuart; eight Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital in Port St. Lucie; and four at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach.

The greatest number of hospitalizations came Aug. 20 when there were 318 patients requiring hospitalization for COVID-19. In comparison, there were 59 on Oct. 4, and 220 on Sept. 8.

According to Rothman, there have been no patients with the omicron variant, which first was discovered in South Africa last week.

President Joe Biden addressed the latest threat Monday, urging Americans to get vaccinated, obtain a booster shot and wear masks in public places.

"This variant is a cause for concern, not a cause for panic," Biden said. "We have more tools to fight the variant than we have ever had before."
