New COVID infections continue to slow in South Dakota as 9 deaths reported
The South Dakota Department of Health reported nine additional deaths of people with COVID-19 on Friday as well as another increase in occupied hospital beds.
One of the latest deaths was in a person 30-39, two were 60-69, two were 70-79 and four 80 or older. Five were women and four were men. The state has recorded 2,637 deaths of people with COVID.
Occupied hospital beds increased to 411, seven more than the previous day. Seventy-five of those required intensive care.
The rate of new cases continued to slow, with 1,145 infections reported. There were 2,242 new recoveries, and active cases fell to 33,647.
The latest cases included 192 Minnehaha County residents and 34 in Lincoln County. Brown County had 84 and Codington County 32.

Seventy-nine percent of the state's eligible population has received at least one COVID vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while 41% of adults have received a full round of vaccines plus a third booster.
