Here are the top 5 stories today in Atlanta:

  1. David Perdue has tested positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation, according to reports. The former U.S. senator is vaccinated and boosted against the virus, his campaign staff told Channel 2 Action News. Perdue is challenging Gov. Brian Kemp in the coming GOP gubernatorial primary at the behest of former President Donald Trump. Perdue lost his seat in the U.S. Senate in January 2021 after Jon Ossoff forced him into a runoff during the Nov. 3, 2020, election, and spent the final days of the campaign in quarantine after being exposed to someone with the virus. 2. After a two-week trial in Atlanta, Cardi B has won her lawsuit against celebrity gossip blogger Tasha K for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Cardi B, 29, was awarded $1.25 million Monday in relation to a lawsuit filed in 2019 after Latasha Kebe, also known as Tasha K, posted dozens of videos and false statements about the rap artist, including claims that Cardi B had herpes. Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, reportedly testified that she felt "extremely suicidal" because of the videos and false statements. According to Law360.com, Kebe reportedly told the jury that she knowingly published lies about the rapper to generate money for her business. (CBS46 News Atlanta)

  3. Job seekers take note: Mercedes-Benz Stadium is hiring. Part-time event and game day staff who are passionate about service and making a difference in peoples’ lives are being sought. The application process is currently underway, according to a news release, and those who apply will be considered to attend the stadium’s first in-person hiring event of 2022 on Feb. 8. 4. OpenTable has released its list of the 100 best places to enjoy a meal in the country, and two of the top restaurants are right here in Atlanta. Blue Ridge Grill and La Grotta Ristorante Italiano — both in Buckhead — are customer favorites, according to OpenTable. The restaurant reservation website said it studied more than 10.5 million reviews that verified users left at U.S. eateries in 2021 to come up with the results. Blue Ridge Grill and La Grotta were the only places in Georgia to earn spots on the nationwide list, with both restaurants earning 4.9 stars out of 5 on OpenTable. (Macon Telegraph)

  5. As part of a broader effort to reduce single-use plastics on flights Delta Air Lines is switching to bamboo cutlery for fresh packaged meals in first class. That and other changes planned for onboard service will reduce its plastic use by about 4.9 million pounds annually, according to the Atlanta-based airline. When the pandemic hit, airlines reduced in-flight service, but more extensive in-flight service is gradually being brought back as travel picks up. • Little Roxy came to Atlanta Humane Society with a badly broken tibia and fibula. 💔 Our shelter medicine team quickly assessed her and realized how serious her injury was. The breaks in Roxy’s leg were so bad, we had to amputate her leg to ensure she’d live her best life possible. After her surgery, Roxy was placed into a wonderful foster home to heal until she was strong enough for adoption. Most dogs adapt well to life on three legs, and Roxy is no exception! She’s now thriving and loving life. ❤️‍🩹To help save the lives of animals like Roxy, please visit: https://secure.atlantahumane.org/site/Donation2?df_id=4494&mfc_pref=T&4494.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&s_src=2022-01-Annual-Supporter&s_subsrc=dm-social (Facebook)
