Here are the top 4 stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. The Las Vegas and Nevada state charts have jumped significantly in key COVID-19 measurements. During the last week, more than 3,800 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Clark County. The Las Vegas area has also surpassed 6,400 deaths attributed to COVID-19 since the pandemic began — about 77 percent of 8,300-plus people who have died statewide. (KTNV Las Vegas)

  2. An unlicensed driver is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run crash involving a Las Vegas officer. Alicia Jones, 22, was accused of striking a Las Vegas police motorcycle cop Tuesday afternoon after she made a left turn from westbound Charleston to southbound Redwood and reportedly did not see Officer V. Hinostrosa on a motorcycle. Jones says she panicked and left the scene, but officers were there when she exited her apartment later. A police report stated that Jones does not have a valid driver's license, insurance, or vehicle registration. (FOX5 Las Vegas)

  3. Traveling around the city for the holidays? Las Vegas transportation officials have shared the official holiday bus schedules. The RTC transit system will operate on a Saturday schedule on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, while the system will run on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. From my notebook:

  • According to the US National Weather Service, Las Vegas's next weather system is expected to impact the area Thursday and Friday. Rainfall may make roads slick for those traveling. Remember to slow down, turn on the headlights, and give yourself extra space and time when driving in wet conditions. (Facebook)

  • Cooking a lot this holiday season? Don't pour fat, oil, grease, or grit(FOGG) down your kitchen sink, which can lead to a drain backup and poor local water quality, says the Las Vegas Valley Water District. (Facebook)

  • Las Vegas Fire & Rescue reminds residents to water their live Christmas trees every day to avoid fires. A dry tree will burn completely in less than 90 seconds with enough static electricity. (Facebook)
