🌱 COVID In Schools + Warehouse Sale + Defend Democracy Rally

Happy Thursday, neighbors! Let's get this day started. Here's everything you need to know in town today.

First, today's weather:

Turning cloudy. High: 37 Low: 31.

Here are the top three stories in Sunset Park today:

  1. Much like in the rest of the city, COVID cases are skyrocketing in schools, with over 38,000 cases having been reported since the start of the December 24th break. On Tuesday almost all the educators at two Sunset Park schools — Sunset Park Prep and Charles Dewey — called out sick. (Chalkbeat New York)

  2. A Sunset Park warehouse on 2nd Avenue sold for $85 million, right after a record year for industrial real estate sales in the city. The warehouse is apparently fully leased to the NYC Department of Elections. (The Real Deal)

  3. Today, January 6th, marks the one year anniversary of the right-wing Capitol insurrection. To mark the day Brooklyn politicians and civil rights leaders are holding a "Defend Democracy" rally in Grand Army Plaza at 12 p.m. The rally will be attended by Sunset Park State Senator Zellnor Myrie.
