COVID Staffing Shortage Forces Modified Trash Pickup — Again

LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK — Your trash pick-up in Mamaroneck and Larchmont is likely to be affected by the omicron variant once again this week.

After temporarily modifying the trash pickup schedule last week, the sanitation commission said the latest coronavirus surge will again force some changes in how garbage is handled in the two municipalities.

"The Joint Sanitation Commission continues to experience staff shortages related to COVID," officials said in a statement announcing the modified service. "In order to continue collection services changes in the collection schedule are again necessary."

A modified collection schedule will be in effect starting on Wednesday.

  • Monday (Jan. 10) Regular Garbage Collection.

  • Tuesday (Jan. 11) Regular Garbage Collection.

  • Wednesday (Jan. 12) Newspaper and cardboard collection only.

  • Thursday (Jan. 13) Garbage and plastic/glass/metal food containers (bottles and cans must be separated from garbage).

  • Friday ( Jan. 14) Garbage and plastic/glass/metal food containers (bottles and cans must be separated from garbage).

This week, the Maxwell Avenue Recycling Center will close daily at 1 p.m. and will be closed all day on Wednesday. Maxwell Avenue will be open on a regular schedule on Saturday, January 15 8 a.m. till 11:45 a.m.

The Mamaroneck Sanitation Commission website will be updated if further collection schedule changes are needed.
