COVID Testing In Cobb County: Where To Find Locations

COBB COUNTY, GA — As public health officials across Cobb County and Georgia warn of rising COVID-19 cases due to the omicron and delta variants of the coronavirus, more Georgians are looking for COVID-19 tests but having trouble finding them.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, there have been 4,946 new COVID-19 cases in Cobb County in the two weeks prior to Dec. 24, with a case rate of 626 cases per 100,000 county residents.
Surveillance for coronavirus variants is done through genomic sequencing of PCR (polymerase chain reaction) positive test results. In Georgia, the most-recent genomic sequencing is from the week ending Dec. 4, according to the GDPH.
At that time, the delta variant was responsible for 98 percent of new COVID-19 cases, state public health officials said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention uses genomic sequencing data to project current variant proportions — and the agency now estimates the omicron variant accounts for more than 73 percent of new COVID-19 cases in the U.S.
"Given the rapid transmissibility of the omicron variant, the current proportion of omicron in Georgia is likely similar to that of the national estimate, and presumably will account for all new COVID cases in the state in the coming weeks," GDPH officials said in a Dec. 21 news release.
