COVID weekly update Nov. 12-18: Florida reports slight increase in COVID-19 cases

The number of weekly COVID-19 cases increased slightly from Nov. 12 to 18 after 11 consecutive weeks of declining numbers, according to the latest update from the Florida Department of Health.

The state reported 10,828 cases, 96 more than the previous week's 10,732, according to the FDOH. The state's total is now 3,677,968.

And while last week's update reflected a decrease in the percentage of eligible vaccinated Floridians — due to the approval of vaccines for children ages 5 and older which expanded the eligible population metric — the overall percentage increased from 67% the previous week to 68% the week ending on Nov. 18.

When looking at a larger portion of the population that just became eligible, it makes sense that a smaller portion has been vaccinated. Since vaccine eligibility expanded, 6% of children between the ages of 5 and 11 in Florida have been vaccinated for COVID-19, according to the FDOH.

The state's positivity rate stayed the same as the previous week at 2.5%.
