This Covington diner was named the best in Kentucky by Food & Wine. Do you agree?

A 76-year-old diner and Covington staple is the best diner in Kentucky, according to Food & Wine.

Locals may not be surprised to hear that the dining outlet recently included the city's historic Anchor Grill, located at 438 Pike St., in its list of the best diners in each state.

Food & Wine editors noted the vintage eatery's penchant for goetta, recommending its noteworthy "GLT" sandwich – goetta, lettuce and tomato – which they declared an "all-day and all-night favorite."

This isn't the first time Anchor Grill has been recognized nationally. In 2020, Helen Rosner, a food critic for The New Yorker, said the greasy spoon's "GLT" was one of the best things she ate that decade.

The restaurant closed for a few months in 2020 due to the pandemic and after a car crashed into the building. Last May, it celebrated 75 years in business.

As for Ohio, if you're willing to make the drive a few hours north, Food & Wine named Boyd & Wurthmann in Berlin, Ohio's Amish Country as the best diner in the state. The outlet recommends the 84-year-old café's buckwheat hot cakes with smoky applewood bacon, dandelion gravy and cinnamon rolls.
