Covington man missing since Dec. 21 found dead in Lebanon, Ohio

A Covington man reported missing since before Christmas has been found dead in Lebanon, Ohio.

Covington police said 76-year-old Edward Allen Wischer was reported missing Dec. 21 by family members. Police said he suffered from Sundowner’s Syndrome and dementia and was last seen Dec. 19 at the Walmart in Ft. Wright, Kentucky.

Also known as late-day confusion, Sundowners Syndrome is the name for a group of behaviors, feelings and thoughts people who have Alzheimer's or dementia can experience as the sun sets. The behaviors start or get worse around sunset or sundown. Symptoms can affect memory, thinking, personality, reasoning, behavior and mood, according to the Cleveland Clinic's website.

Covington Police Detective Jim Lindeman requested Texas Equusearch conduct a search near a cell phone tower in Lebanon, Ohio. The search discovered Wischer’s car stuck in a nearby field.

Police said a check of the surrounding area led to the discovery of a body identified as that of Edward Wischer. No information was released as to when he was found or the cause of death.

The investigation has been turned over to detectives with the Lebanon Division of Police.

Texas Equusearch is a nonprofit search and recovery team founded by Tim Miller in 2000, 16 years after his daughter Laura was kidnapped and murdered. Through the years, volunteers have given their own time, talents, resources, and dedication to help recover and return lost and missing loved ones to their families.
