Cowgirls sweep MW's weekly accolades

Feb. 27—The University of Wyoming women's basketball team swept the Mountain West's weekly women's basketball honors Monday. It's the second time the Cowgirls have picked up both player of the week and freshman of the week.

Sophomore Allyson Fertig earned her second player of the week honor in as many weeks. The Glendo product averaged 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and one block per game on 20-for-30 shooting to help the Cowgirls beat Nevada and Colorado State.

The 6-foot-4 center scored 23 points and nine rebounds against Nevada. She added a career-best 27 points during UW's win over Colorado State. That victory secured the No. 2 seed to the MW tournament for UW.

This is the third time this season Fertig was tabbed MW player of the week.

Pedersen earned her fifth freshman of the week honor. She averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists while shooting 11-for-20 from the floor. She scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds during the win over Nevada. She added 15 points on just seven shots against CSU.
