CEO Dan York, Executive Vice President of TV Paul Curran and the Executive Vice President of Content, Marian Pittman, accepted the award onstage in Washington, D.C.

“Cox Media’s roots go back 124 years, and since day one, it’s been our core mission to inform, entertain and inspire the communities we live in and serve every day,” York said. “All of us as broadcasters play a critical role in our markets, our society, and frankly, our democracy. The role of local broadcasting, and local journalism has never been more important and it’s never been more under assault that it is right now.”

York said that unlike social media, local broadcasters inform and unite their communities responsibly. He called the “Gets Real” series just one more initiative to provide a balanced, candid and real discourse.

“We strive for the greater unity this discourse can achieve as we all try together to navigate turbulent times,” York said.
