Coynes celebrating 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. James Andrew Coyne of Monroe observed their golden wedding anniversary earlier this year. A family open house took place May 15 in Monroe.

Mr. Coyne married June Kreuchauf April 22, 1972, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Temperance. Officiating were the Revs. Carl Anderson and Peter Dougherty. A reception was held at Hathaway House, Blissfield.

The couple’s daughters and sons-in-law are Jillian and Jeremy Balduf of Temperance and Jane Coyne-O’Connor and John O’Connor. They also have three grandchildren.

Mr. Coyne worked for 31 years for the City of Monroe as a purchasing assistant, 1976 until retiring in 2007. Before that, he was the assistant to the floor covering manager at Floral City Furniture Co., 1972-75.

He served in the Army Reserves, 1970-76, in the 983rd Engineering Battalion of Toledo.

A 1966 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, he earned an associate of science degree from Monroe County Community College in 1969 and a bachelor of business administration degree in management in 1971 from Eastern Michigan University.

He has been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church since 1976 and was a member of the Detroit Beach Boat Club from 1979 to 2002.

He enjoys golfing, sailing, bowling and working out at the MCCC Fitness Center.

Mrs. Coyne was an elementary teacher for Monroe Public Schools for 33 years. She worked at Christiancy and South Monroe Township Schools. She was an election worker for seven years and worked for Health Matters for seven years.

A 1967 graduate of Bedford High School, Temperance, and attended MCCC. She earned a bachelor of art degree from EMU and a master of art degree from the University of Toledo.

She is a member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Choir and Altar Guild. She is part of the Stronger Together Huddle. She enjoys gardening, reading and fitness.
