Coyote attacks 4-year-old girl in her front yard, Arizona cops say. ‘I just got bit’

A coyote bit a 4-year-old Mesa girl playing in her front yard, Arizona police reported.

The girl was not seriously hurt in the 9:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, encounter, police said in a news release.

“Blair screamed once, she came inside and said, ‘I just got bit by a dangerous animal,’” Jordan Brough, the girl’s father, told KNXV. She was bitten on the hip and required stitches.

The girl has been playing in the front yard with her siblings, KPNX reported.

Officers tracked down the coyote at 10:30 a.m. and shot it dead, police said. Its body will be tested for rabies and other illnesses.

“We also collected the small child’s clothes so when we get that DNA information, hopefully make a match and confirm we’ve gotten the offending coyote,” Alexandra Flickinger of the Arizona Game and Fish Department told KNXV.

Police did not report any other injuries.

Mesa is about 20 miles east of Phoenix.
