Columbia Public Schools has settled an employment discrimination lawsuit filed by an assistant principal at Hickman High School in 2018.

The lawsuit was filed by Jerome Sally, who no longer works for the school district.

Julianne Germinder, representing the school district, announced the settlement Monday during a court hearing that had been scheduled as a pre-trial hearing.

Details of the settlement are not available because it hasn't been filed yet. Michelle Baumstark, district spokeswoman, said in an email she couldn't comment on an ongoing lawsuit.

As assistant principal, he also co-lead Restorative Practices training, the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit alleged racial discrimination, alleging that Sally, who is Black, was paid less than white colleagues in the same positions.

It alleged racial and age discrimination, alleging he received no salary increase in his 2016-2017 contract, after voters in April 2016 approved a tax rate increase to improve salaries.

He had overwhelmingly positive performance reviews at Hickman, the lawsuit states.
