Crabbs is FC Offensive Back of the Year

Nov. 15—St. Paul senior running back Quincey Crabbs was an overwhelming selection for the All-Firelands Conference Offensive Back of the Year, the league announced on Monday.

In 12 games this season, Crabbs ran 271 times for 2,122 yards (7.8-yard average) and 25 touchdowns. With a touchdown catch, fumble return and eight 2-point conversion runs, Crabbs totaled 178 points (14.8 per game) this season.

Crabbs earned the most first-place votes (5) on the offensive side of the ball. He also finished 579 yards better than the second-leading rusher in the FC after the regular season.

As one of 13 All-Ohio running backs since 1992, Crabbs became just the fourth player in program history to reach 2,000 yards. He joined Dan Pugh (2,368, 1997), Jason Pugh (2,008, 1999) and Brad Smith (2,006, 2014).

However, Crabbs was by far the quickest to the milestone. He reached 2,000 yards in his 11th game, compared to the 13th game for Dan Pugh, who remains the single-season (and career) rushing leader for the Flyers.

On defense, Crabbs also received 5-of-6 first-place votes at inside linebacker, only finishing one point behind Lineman of the Year Owen Barker from Crestview. Crabbs totaled 106 tackles (20 for loss) with three fumble recoveries and an interception.

Two offensive linemen that helped St. Paul average 34.4 points and 388.6 yards per game this season, were also first team.

Senior center Chase Rospert and senior tackle Logan Risner helped the Flyers rush for 329.2 yards per game and 51 TDs on the ground in 12 games.

Risner also earned first team defensive line with 45 tackles and seven sacks. He and Crabbs were joined by senior outside linebacker Andy Meyer and senior safety AJ Meyer.

Andy Meyer totaled 113 tackles (13 for loss) with two fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups. AJ Meyer finished with 100 tackles, four interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

South Central placed three players on the FC first team, led by the dynamic senior pass and catch duo of Brandon Mitchell and Isaac Blair.

Mitchell was 192-of-288 passing for 2,089 yards with 27 TDs while rushing for 489 yards and 3 TDs. Mitchell owns program records for passing in a game, season and career, while his 6,126 career passing yards is unofficially the 28th-highest total in OHSAA history.

Blair caught 92 passes for 1,153 yards and 19 TDs for South Central. He also broke records for catches, yards and TDs in a season, while the 92 catches is unofficially 32nd all-time in OHSAA history, and the 19 TDs are tied for 23rd in Ohio history.

Also for the Trojans, inside linebacker Braden Kiesel was first team at inside linebacker after he finished with 129 tackles (7 TFL), 1.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Western Reserve also placed a pair on the first team in senior wide receiver Chris Buchanan and senior inside linebacker Rhett Grose.

Buchanan caught 46 passes for 702 yards (15.2 average) and 5 TDs, while Grose tallied 64 tackles (5 for loss) with a sack and an interception.

Plymouth had a pair of two-way first team selections in senior running back/safety Shae Sparks, and senior receiver/punter Caiden Allen. They ere joined on the first team by senior defensive lineman Colton Sparks.

St. Paul (8-4, 5-1) also had six positions among five players earn second team honors.

Junior running back Ben Burger ran for 1,398 yards and 19 TDs alongside Crabbs this season, and was also second team at inside linebacker (38 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery).

AJ Meyer was second team at tight end (32 catches, 431 yards, 2 TDs), as was sophomore guard Tristin Nickoli and junior kicker Ashton Stang (27-of-38 PATs). Andy Meyer was second team punter (15 for a 40.9 average).

For Western (6-5, 4-2), senior Logan Wiegel was second team at running back (1,067 yards, 9 TDs) and outside linebacker (52 tackles, 12 TFLs, two sacks). He was joined by senior defensive back Jake Elkin (67 tackles, 1 INT), senior center Preston Ehrnsberger and junior guard Braxton Balog.
