Craft beer summer in January, coffee class in Matawan and more things to do this weekend

Things are heating up at Bradley Brew Project.

The downtown Bradley Beach craft brewery is hosting its Summer in January celebration from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Customers are encouraged to come dressed in their summertime fun time best, and the brewery will be decorated to match.

Bradley Brew’s outdoor biergarten, with heaters, will have cornhole boards set up (weather permitting). Individually pre-packaged and sealed pretzel bites and beer cheese from neighboring E. Hollard Sundries will be available as well for some snacking.

Anthony Lee Loops will provide the soundtrack for the festivities, with live music from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Jesse Eisenberg's ‘Saving the World’ in Asbury Park

Jesse Eisenberg, the Oscar-nominated star of “The Social Network” who grew up in East Brunswick, is stepping behind the camera for “When You Finish Saving the World,” a new film he directed and wrote starring Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard of “Stranger Things” fame.

“When You Finish Saving the World” is set to receive a limited theatrical run via A24, with the film booked for five screenings on Saturday and Sunday at the ShowRoom Cinema in Asbury Park.

To mark the occasion, the ShowRoom is also bringing back a trio of banner A24 films from 2022: “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Aftersun” and “Pearl,” all set to return to the Cookman Avenue arthouse this weekend.

Oscar contender 'Cinema Sabaya' plays LBI

Jersey Shore film fans have a special opportunity to see an international Oscar contender this weekend.

Written and directed by Orit Fouks Rotem, “Cinema Sabaya” is Israel’s submission to the upcoming 95th Academy Awards, and it plays the Jewish Community Center of Long Beach Island on Saturday night.

The film, about the bonds formed between Arab and Jewish women attending a community center video workshop, is presented on Saturday by the Lighthouse International Film Society and the Jewish Community Center of Long Beach Island.

Beach Rats return to Asbury Park

A crew of legendary Jersey punk rock stars return to Asbury Park this weekend.

Beach Rats are a Monmouth County-based hardcore supergroup featuring Bryan Kienlen and Pete Steinkopf of the Bouncing Souls, Ari Katz of Lifetime, Brian Baker of Bad Religion and Minor Threat, and Daniel "Dubs" Windas. They play Shore Style Punk Night Vol. 61, presented in conjunction with Light Brigade Collective on Saturday evening at Trinity Church.

Beach Rats will be joined by School Drugs, Wet Specimen and Magic Ghrelin for the occasion.

Cosmic Jerry Band returns to the Wonder Bar

Local Grateful Dead tribute scene stars Cosmic Jerry Band return to the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park on Friday night, and they’re bringing company.

The band will be joined by saxophonist Kenny Brooks, a longtime collaborator with Grateful Dead singer and guitarist Bob Weir in Weir’s RatDog ensemble. This is a two-set throwdown you don’t want to miss.

'Mutts' creator visits the Rustin Center

Patrick McDonnell, creator of the “Mutts” comic strip, visits the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice in Princeton on Saturday afternoon.

McDonnell will be on hand in celebration of his and the Dalai Lama’s new book, “Heart to Heart: A Conversation on Love and Hope for Our Precious Planet,” set to be released via Harper Collins on Jan. 24.

In addition to discussing “Heart to Heart” and “Mutts,” McDonnell will be signing “Heart to Heart” bookplates to support the Rustin Center, a LGBTQIA safe space and community activist center.
