Craft This Easy DIY Dog Bed for Your Pampered Pup

For many people, pets are more than just pets — they’re best friends. When your pup gets sleepy, the carpet simply won’t cut it — especially for those ‘paws’-itively pampered pooches. Instead of shelling out major cash for an overpriced, brand-name dog bed, try your hand at this fun DIY project.

Keep reading to see how easy — and cheap — it is to make this commonly store-bought item yourself.

What You’ll Need

Before you get started, check to see how many of these items you have laying around the house. Then re-use, or “upcycle,” one of your favorite old sweatshirts for your pup to snuggle in.

How to Make

Step 1: Lay your sweatshirt flat, and with your needle and thread, sew across the chest area from one underarm to the other.

Step 2: Insert your pillow into the sweatshirt. If there’s extra space left over, add more stuffing.

Step 3: Cut a small opening in the bottom ribbing of the sweatshirt.

Step 4: Take a piece of yarn and tie it to a pen. Using the pen as a guide, thread the piece of yarn through the ribbing opening. Pull the string to cinch the bottom opening shut.

Step 5: Take the stuffing and stuff the arms and neck portions of the sweatshirt.

Step 6: Mimicking what you did with the bottom of the sweatshirt, cut a small hole in the ribbing of the neck. Guide the pen and yarn through the opening and cinch it shut.

Step 7: Connect the arms together, tucking one sleeve into the other. Then, cover the connection with a piece of cloth.

Step 8: Sew the cloth to secure the arms.

Step 9: Decorate as you see fit.

If you were to head to the store, a comparable dog bed would run you upwards of $20. By making it yourself, you’ll only have a total cost of $8.87.
