Cram a Turbo V-8 in a Geo Tracker and This Is What You Get
And now, one of the more absurd cars we've seen for sale on Craigslist. It's a 1993 Geo Tracker that's had its 80-hp four-cylinder yanked out and replaced with a turbocharged 6.0-liter GM V-8. The seller doesn't list the horsepower, but they include a timing slip from the drag strip, showing a 9.879-second quarter-mile at 132.4 mph. Damn.
The turbo V-8 runs E85, and thanks to MSD two-step ignition, it launches hard. The transmission is a heavy-duty GM 4L80e four-speed auto that sends power to a Ford 8.8-inch rear axle with 4.11 gears and a limited-slip. It's got a large rear swaybar to control wheelies, but the seller says it'll still lift the front tires if you left-foot brake rather than using the MSD launch limiter.
Some of the dashboard remains as it was in 1993, and the seats are original, too, but that's about it. There's a custom roll-cage with a five-point harness for the driver. Because there's so little room in the engine bay, the Tracker uses a remote turbo mounted under the floor-with pressurized intake air reaching the engine via a tube that runs through the passenger footwell.
And that's not all. You really should read the Craigslist ad to get the full picture of what went into making this truly ridiculous car.
Amazingly, it's street legal, and it can be yours for $14,500. Considering all the work that goes into making a nine-second Geo Tracker, that's probably a pretty good deal. Though we wouldn't advise using this as a daily driver-especially if you need to bring a passenger.
