3 killed in Bay Bridge crash Thursday morning

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A fatal crash on eastbound Interstate 80 west of Treasure Island Thursday morning killed three people and caused major injuries to one other, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two vehicles, a Mini Cooper car and a Toyota Tacoma truck, were involved in the collision that happened at approximately 4:14 a.m., according to CHP Public Information Officer Mark Andrews.

There were three people inside the Mini at the time of the crash. The driver and the rear passenger died at the scene, according to authorities. The front passenger was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to SF General with major injuries and is expected to survive, CHP said.

The crash blocked multiple lanes of traffic Thursday morning, according to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management. All lanes were reopened by 6:46 a.m.
