1 dead after crash involving car, tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 322 near Boalsburg

One person was killed Monday morning after a vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 322, State College police said.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. Monday near the end of the four-lane section of Route 322 in Harris Township. A passenger car was traveling eastbound on the roadway and crossed into the opposing lane of travel, according to a press release from State College police. The vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer that had been traveling westbound, the preliminary investigation found.

The driver of the passenger car, who was not identified by police, was killed in the crash.

A portion of Route 322 was closed for more than three hours for the investigation and removal of the vehicles. Drivers used the “orange detour” that uses state Route 45 and state Route 144.

Boalsburg and Alpha fire companies also responded to the crash, along with Centre Lifelink EMS, Patton Township Police Department, Centre County Office of Emergency Services, Centre Region Emergency Management, the Centre County Coroner’s Office and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
