New York man dies in crash that caused severe traffic on George Washington Bridge

A New York man died in an early morning crash Friday that caused heavy traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway and George Washington Bridge.

The crash happened around 1:53 a.m. on the Cross Bronx eastbound near Jerome Avenue and involved two vehicles. Richard Edwards, 38, of Hempstead, New York died in the crash, according to the NYPD.

Edwards, traveling in the same direction, collided into the rear of a 2022 Freightliner Tandem tractor trailer, operated by a 49-year-old man. He was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Trax.

The crash backed up traffic on the George Washington Bridge for hours Friday.
