Crash investigators to close portion of Idalou Road after deadly wreck

Lubbock police will close down a portion of Idalou Road early Tuesday as crews conduct a follow-up investigation after a deadly Sunday morning crash.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating the single-vehicle crash that was reported at 7:39 a.m. Sunday in the 4400 block of Idalou Road, according to Lubbock police Cpl. Tony Leal.

Investigators believe a Nissan Titan, driven by 27-year-old Julian Hernandez, was traveling northeast when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a fence and utility pole.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit will conduct a follow-up crash investigation Tuesday morning.

The unit will start their investigation at 9 a.m. in the 4400 block of Idalou Road. The northeast lanes will be down to one lane with a shift in which lanes are closed as the investigation progresses. This operation is expected to take about two hours.

Motorists are asked to avoid this area and plan to use an alternate route since delays are expected.
