Crash involving school bus and passenger vehicle results in injury

A Texas Department of Public Safety report indicates the accident involving a Rusk ISD school bus and passenger vehicle was caused when the car failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign and struck the bus. The accident occurred near the intersection of CR 2116 and CR 2117, near FM 1248.

A Tuesday morning wreck involving a Rusk Independent School District bus and a passenger vehicle resulted in injuries. The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. along CR 1248.

The driver and 18 students were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. Two people were in the passenger vehicle.

One student was transported, with a parent, by ambulance from the scene,. The driver of the passenger vehicle was life-flighted out, although the severity of injury is unknown.

All students were checked by EMS before leaving the scene. Two were released to parents and the remainder were transported to school.

"We feel blessed that no one was seriously injured on the bus or in the other vehicle," said RISD Superintendent Grey Burton. "Law enforcement is still investigating the accident, so I don't have many details about the incident. I do know there were 18 students on the bus at the time of the accident. Two were signed out by parents and one was taken to the hospital for whiplash."

Burton added that all parents had been notified of the situation.
