Crash kills 2 Nampa teens after deputies chase vehicle from Oregon to Idaho

Authorities are investigating a Saturday night police chase that left two Nampa teens dead.

Just after 9 p.m. Saturday, the Ontario Police Department asked the Payette County Sheriff’s Office for help pursuing a black Volkswagen Jetta that was headed toward Fruitland, Idaho, according to a news release from the Payette County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office said the Jetta, which didn’t have license plates, was driving fast with no headlights.

Deputies found the vehicle heading southbound on Elmore Road and began pursuing it, the Sheriff’s Office said. When the Jetta approached U.S. 30, it left the road, entered a canal and hit the side of a concrete bridge, according to the news release.

Both a 16-year-old teenage girl and the 19-year-old male driver died inside the car, the release said. The Payette County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the occupants and release the cause and manner of death. Idaho State Police is helping to investigate the crash.

The New Plymouth Rural Fire Department along with several tow companies removed the vehicle from the canal, and police later determined that the Jetta was stolen from Ontario, the release said.
