Crash kills two on Route 73 in Mount Laurel

MOUNT LAUREL - Two people died when a vehicle veered off Route 73 in a late-night crash here.

Police said a car driven by Alex Bercume, 26, of Shippensburg broke into pieces after it struck a wall off southbound 73 near Fellowship Road around 1:20 a.m. Friday.

Bercume and a passenger, Mayra Lopez, 34, of New Castle, Delaware, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident, which involved a 2022 Nissan Maxima, closed roads in the area for about four hours.

The Mount Laurel crash was one of two deadly accidents in South Jersey over the weekend.

A motorist died in Franklin in a crash on Route 47 about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, according to New Jersey State Police. Additional details about that accident were not immediately available.
