Louisiana man dies as result of I-59 crash near DeKalb County

A single-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle near DeKalb County on Saturday afternoon led to the death of a Louisiana man, according to a press release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

The crash occurred approximately at 3:10 p.m. The Freightliner tractor-trailer left the roadway and struck several trees, then became engulfed in flames on Interstate 59 near mile marker 215 in DeKalb County.

The driver, Raymond E. Arnold, 53, of Slidell, Louisiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of the accident, the northbound left lane of I-59 was closed.

Troopers with the ALEA continue to investigate the crash.
