Crash occurs in dense fog near Northwood, North Dakota

Jan. 1—NORTHWOOD, N.D. — Fog contributed to a crash on Saturday, Dec. 31, that included two vehicles and a pedestrian, leaving one person injured.

The incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2017 Cadillac Escalade driven by Jody Lloyd, 59, of Northwood, was traveling west on Highway 15, approximately 5 miles east of Northwood. Roads were icy and there was a dense fog.

A 2023 Chevrolet pickup driven by Marcia Sherod, 57, of Emerado was attempting to pull a third vehicle that was stuck in the ditch. That vehicle had been driven by Nathaneal Nolden, 38, of Northwood, but he was outside of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

According to the Highway Patrol report, "the Chevrolet was facing the wrong way on Highway 15 in the traffic lane. Lloyd swerved right attempting to avoid striking the Chevrolet. Lloyd struck the Chevrolet with her Cadillac, glanced off and then struck Nolden, the pedestrian." Nolden was transported by a Fargo hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
