Craving some oysters? Here are some cool places to get them on the SouthCoast.

Most people have a love or hate relationship with oysters and Friday is the day for those who love them. National Oyster Day is Aug. 5 and we are fortunate to live in the SouthCoast where they are plentiful.

Not only are oysters a delicacy, they pack a wallop of zinc, which is great for making you feel good and keeping up your energy adding another reason to indulge in these silky, briny, seafood nuggets.

If you're planning to enjoy them at home, don't do it without the use of an oyster knife, advises this USA Today article. According to that article, the most popular styles of oyster knives are Boston and New Haven. The Boston shucker has a long and narrow blade with a rounded tip and is best for small to medium-sized oysters and are suitable for beginner shuckers. The New Haven-style knife has a shorter and wider blade with a pointed tip that curves upwards.

While oysters at a raw bar are the obvious choice for those who prefer to let someone else do all the shucking, Southcoast restaurants are serving them up in all sorts of ways. Head out and celebrate National Oyster Day with tacos, platters, and lots of lemons.
