Craving Sea And Sand In Jamaica? Here Are Some Great Beaches

From Negril to the capital city of Kingston, Jamaica offers beaches and coves for all kinds of travelers. If you’re a movie fan, you might already know that one beach near Ocho Rios was where the first James Bond film was shot. If you like beaches connected to resorts or those that are a bit rough around the edges, there are options in both cases. Even Kingston, which isn’t a beach destination necessarily, has nice possibilities.

If time permits, be sure to show love to the other water features on the island. YS Falls and Dunn’s River Falls and Park are long- time tourist hotspots. For more thrills, you can also go tubing or rafting on the White River or the Rio Grande.

James Bond Beach

Dr. No, the first of the never ending James Bond films, was shot here in 1962.

Sean Connery’s Bond meets Honey Rider, who emerges from the waters. The movie was a hit and helped put Jamaica on the map.

The beach is perched on Oracabessa Bay, about 30 minutes outside Ocho Rios. The alternate name is Laughing Waters Beach.

Grab a bite and a Red Stripe at nearby Moonraker Bar, where live music is played.

Seven Mile Beach

This is probably the most beautiful beach in Negril; dotted by resorts and villas.

The waters are vibrant shades of blue and green and they are gentle enough for children and inexperienced swimmers.

Relaxing on the sand is always an option, but you can also go on a scuba diving adventure, jet-ski, or have a look at the seafloor through the glass bottom boat.

Treasure Beach

Treasure Beach couldn’t have a more appropriate name.

According to Sandals, “the Taino people made their way to Treasure Beach, setting up camp around 1494 AD. Remnants of Taino pottery can still be found especially after a heavy rain.”

Sandals notes that “Treasure Beach is the generic name for four main coves.”

Billy’s Bay, Calabash Bay, Frenchman’s Bay and Great Bay.

Kingston Beaches

The beach isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Kingston, but there are some surprisingly decent ones.

In the Kingston area or close to it, there’s  Fort Clarence, Hellshire Beach, Fairy Hill Beach (also called Winnifred Beach) and Lime Cay.

According to USA Today, “for movie buffs, Lime Cay Beach has an interesting history; used as a location in the Jamaican movie Harder They Come.”

Round out your time in Kingston by partying the night away at the clubs and bars.

Doctor's Cave Beach

This is one of the best beaches in Montego Bay, offering soft, white sand and clear waters.

The current price of admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years.

Beach facilities include a marine park and restaurants. The clubhouse is open to members, fitted with a gym, meeting room and sauna.
