Dog mutilation case investigated by Crawford County Sheriff's Office

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office is investigating how a dog's severed head ended up on a guardrail on Stetzer Road.

"We received a call I believe on the 14th and have been doing follow-ups since that date, trying to figure out exactly what happened," Chief Deputy Chad Filliater said Friday morning.

"Deputies went out and found the dog, and in the days following, the dog's owners were identified and the party involved as to putting the dog's head was identified, but that's about all I can tell you right now," Filliater said.

No one has been charged in connection with the case, Sheriff Scott Kent said.

"There's a couple people that we're looking at, but they're juveniles, so I can't release their information," he said.

The animal's head was found at Stetzer and Parcher roads, Kent said.

The intersection is roughly two miles east of the sheriff's office at 3613 Stetzer Road.

Scott said his office will be working with the Crawford County prosecutor's office to determine if charges are appropriate.

Matt Crall, the county prosecutor, said by text message it would be inappropriate to comment on the case until the investigation is completed.

"The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate and the prosecutor's office will make a decision at the appropriate time," he said.
