“Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon M. Chu has signed on to direct a new film adaptation of the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for Amazon Studios.

The project will reunite Chu with his producing partner Scott Sanders, who worked with him on the film adaptation of “In the Heights,” another musical.

Originally written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical centers around the Old Testament tale of Joseph, who becomes the pharaoh’s right hand after being cast away by his jealous brothers.

Chu’s Electric Somewhere will produce the film adaptation with Rice and Webber onboard as executive producers. Daniel Goldfarb will pen the screenplay.
