2016′s Crazy Celebrity Spends – And Everything You Could Afford Instead

We all love hearing about the lives of celebrities and, perhaps even more so, the lavish items they splash their cash on. But occasionally, things can get out of hand: £1,500 for a manicure? £30,000 for a baby rattle? 2016 has already seen its fair share of wild spending, as giffgaff discovered with its latest research.

And if the items themselves don’t give you a shock, just wait until you see what you could afford instead. We’re talking trekking through jungles, climbing mountains, and seeing the whole world twice over! giffgaff dove into 2016’s celebrity spends, and the exciting lives we could live if we had the same disposable income that they enjoy:

1) A Met Gala Manicure Just Like Gigi Hadid

TV personality and fashion model Gigi Hadid sported these shiny, metallic nails when attending the Met Gala in May, which set her back just over £1,500.

We’re not saying they aren’t pretty, but would anyone choose them over having the opportunity to see the Great Barrier Reef? Not to mention doing it eight times! If that isn’t your cup of tea, you could spend almost two months in the African rainforest.

2) Kylie Jenner’s Cartier Love Bracelet

Kylie Jenner’s Cartier bracelet is so lovely that we learned she literally couldn’t take it off her wrist. And at near £4,000 just on one piece of jewellery, we can’t blame her for being so attached, but £4,000 can stretch an awful long way. Particularly when, instead, we could take nine friends to Ibiza, swim with dolphins in Portugal or even go dog sledding in Canada. We’d even be able to go on 12 archaeological tours of Peru, though there might not be much left of the country after you’re done with those.

3) Night Out At Hydeout, Paid For By Sam Thompson

Sam Thompson, from Made in Chelsea, managed to spend more than many people spend on their weddings at the Hydeout bar at the start of this year.

Instead, that money alone could pay for Chelsea season tickets for the next 28 years, or put something back into the environment by learning eco-training in South Africa for eight months. You could even take care of the children and animals there for an entire year! Such as shame to see that money blown on one night out.

4) White Gold Rattle For Princess Charlotte

image

Princess Charlotte had her first birthday in May, and her present came with a hefty price tag. The Natural Sapphire Company’s white gold rattle (studded with diamonds and sapphires, no less) at £30,000 makes it the most expensive rattle we’ve ever seen.

That’s a pretty penny for a rattle, and it could, instead, pay for you to enjoy some serious sport around world. Enjoy bobsledding? How about visiting Norway 28 times? Or climbing just about everywhere around Mt. Everest 16 times over? Now that’s something you’ll never grow out of.

5) The Wardrobe Used In Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ Video

Beyoncé enjoys glitz and glamour wherever she goes, and we’re not even looking at her home wardrobe. Just the cost of the clothing she wore in her ‘Formation’ music video totals an estimated £63,284.

So you could have nine outfits, or enjoy seeing the sites of Sumatra, Malaysia and Kenya. Alternatively, you could trade these designer dresses in for running gear and run the New York Marathon with more than 250 of your friends. Now that definitely makes an impression!

6) A McLaren Car For A Superstar

image

Drake tops the list of research, spending over £250,000 on a McLaren 675LT Drake in April to celebrate his album ‘Views’ being released. There are only 500 of these cars in the world, but it can’t compare to the kind of life you would live if you had that money to spend.

While thousands are blessed to have the opportunity to study one university degree, you could afford to complete nine of them. If you don’t fancy a life chock-full of academic research, you could help the children of Madagascar by spending 25 years of your life building wells and schools.

For a truly phenomenal experience, you could see everything the world has to offer. Literally. The price of the McLaren 675LT is enough to let you visit every country in the world twice.
