A creature was trapped in a laundry room in a Florida home. See the ‘hero’ rescue

Firefighters took time away from putting out blazes on Thursday to tend to a little critter in need in Oak Hill, Florida, about an hour northeast of Orlando.

According to a Facebook post from the Volusia County Professional Firefighters, a crew responded to a home to help an opossum that had somehow gotten wedged inside a laundry room and couldn’t escape.

Facebook video, set to the Bonnie Tyler’s ’80s hit “Holding Out for Hero,” shows a gloved firefighter attempting to pull out the creature, tightly stuck against a wall, looking afraid and uncomfortable.

Another firefighter then manages to slide down a plank that contains the grayish white marsupial in a corner. The other firefighter shields the opossum’s eyes with a rag and yanks it out. The clip ends with the little thing being released out of a window to freedom.

“Disclaimer: No firefighters were injured making this video,” says the caption. “Opossums, either.”

According to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, opossums are “skilled climbers” that are attracted to almost any type of available comestibles, including garbage, as well as pet food, fruits and vegetables.

To prevent them from invading your property, secure trash cans and take in anything they may want to gobble up before you tuck in at night.

You can also receive removal assistance by contacting an FWC regional office near you.
