Creek Fire Smoke Obscures Visibility in California's Mono County

A dense smoke advisory was issued for Mono County on Sunday, September 6, as the Creek Fire burned thousands of acres in California.

Officials with the city of Mammoth Lakes in Mono County said wildfire smoke was causing “unhealthy to locally hazardous” air quality levels. City officials urged residents to be prepared for a possible evacuation.

The fire in the Sierra National Forest, which began on Friday evening and spread to more than 45,000 acres by Sunday, trapped people near Mammoth Pool Reservoir, resulting in over 200 evacuations.
