Creekview golfer Ledford headed to KSU

Jan. 7—Creekview golfer Josh Ledford signed with Kennesaw State on Tuesday.

Ledford, a crucial part of the Grizzlies' recent success, already has big aspirations for when he joins the Owls for the 2022-23 season. He is excited to join the perennial ASUN Conference favorite and the place where his current swing coach recruited him.

"I would like to be a part of and contribute to getting Kennesaw a national championship," Ledford said. "I look forward to the competition. Right now, I am playing against high-schoolers, but in college, you are playing against the best high-schoolers. I look forward to that."

Ledford has the same goal for his final season at Creekview. He credited Grizzlies coach Jimmy Thigpen as one of the reasons he became so successful as a player and wants to leave one of his mentors on a high note.

"My brothers and I have been trying to win coach Thigpen a state title for eight years," Ledford said. "We have come a little too close, and it sure would be nice to get one for him. He has always been supportive of me, even before I was on the team. He would let me play with them when I was in sixth and seventh grade."

Thigpen knew Ledford would be successful from when they first connected. Ledford's older brother, Luke, came through the Creekview program, and the pair played together for one year.

Josh Ledford has been with the Grizzlies all four years of his high school career, and the program has been better for it. He made an immediate impact, tying for third place in the Class AAAAAA state tournament as a freshman in 2019.

"I am super excited for him," Thigpen said of Ledford, the 21st-ranked senior in Georgia. "He has put in a ton of hard work over the years with this program. I knew he was going to be good from the first year I had him. He is something special and has been working really hard. His dream of playing collegiate golf is coming true, and it was awesome to hear."

Thigpen said it has been a blast to coach Ledford during his time at Creekview, and he looks forward to the one final season they have together. Thigpen said Ledford is one of the most coachable players to come through the program, and the coach trusts him to even run the team's practices when necessary.

"He will have nothing but success," Thigpen said. "That is Josh's mentality. Kennesaw State has a good program. He will have to work, but I know he has the work ethic and ability to do it. He is going to the next level and will get even more coaching and put more time into it. I think he can be successful at anything he puts his mind to."

Ledford said he is excited to learn from Kennesaw State coach Bryant Odom and his future Owl teammates. First, though, is finishing out a memorable career at Creekview.

"It meant everything to me," Ledford said. "I loved it for all four years with all my friends and coach Thigpen. We had such a great time."
