Friday is Fête nationale française, or one of France’s biggest holidays. Elsewhere July 14 is known as Bastille Day – and is a great reason to celebrate French culture, French food and the ol’ blue, white and red of the French flag, no matter where you are. That’s true in Wilmington, too, with the help of these local restaurants.

Caprice Bistro: This classic Wilmington restaurant at 10 Market St. downtown always celebrates French holidays, from Bastille Day to the annual release of Beaujolais nouveau in November. This year, they have à la carte specials. Chef Thierry and Patricia Moity said they want to keep their menu as authentic as possible, while also working with locally available products. Look for dishes like bœuf bourguignon, frogs' legs, escargot and duck confit, as well as profiteroles and macarons for dessert.

Brasserie du Soleil: In Lumina Station (1908 Eastwood Road near Wrightsville Beach) this restaurant has been celebrating all week with the help of new Executive Chef Ryan Michaels who came from Urban Food Group’s Vivace Restaurant in Raleigh. On Friday, they'll have $5 sparkling wine, live accordion music, French dishes, and Tour of France sparkling wine flights all day. If you're hanging out in the brasserie in the afternoon, look for a waiter race around the pond at 3 p.m.

Far From France Bakery and Bistro: This newly expanded restaurant at The Pointe at Barclay, 1474 Barclay Pointe Blvd. in Wilmington, is celebrating with live music during lunch and dinner service. You can also enjoy their Bastille cocktail, with blue curaçao, vodka, soda and a Pinot Noir floater. Additional specials include a Marie Antoinnette crepe at lunch, with ricotta, lemon, blueberry, and raspberry sauce, and a traditional Parisian steak tartare with frites and salad at dinner.

Our Crepes & More: This crêperie at 3810 Oleander Drive in Wilmington is offering two specials for breakfast and lunch on Friday, one savory (with roast beef) and one sweet, which will be filled with blueberries, strawberries and French custard. On Saturday, the French in Wilmington group is celebrating with a first-come, first-served Saturday brunch that begins at 10 a.m.

Epicurean Bistro: The new team at this restaurant at 1978 Eastwood Road near Wrightsville Beach will have a few French dishes on special in the evening for Bastille Day. You can also get half-priced bottles of wine and discounted wines by the glass.

The Second Glass: Every week, this restaurant in Wilmington's South Front District at 1540 S. 2nd St. offers a curated wine flight (the purchase of which also comes with a complimentary small plate on Wednesdays and Thursdays). This week, bien sûr, it’s French wines – including a Sancerre Rosé and a Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley, and a Cotes du Rhone blend available through Sunday.
