Crestview's Owen Barker named Division VI Northwest District Lineman of the Year

FINDLAY — High school quarterbacks around the state are thanking the football Gods that Owen Barker was a senior in 2022.

The Crestview Cougars was a dominant force recording 80 tackles with 12 sacks and 36 QB pressures to go with 30 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovers, a safety and a pass breakup as he was named the Division VI Northwest District Lineman of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Baker was the NW District Defensive Player of the Year last year.

He headlines 11 Cougars who earned All-Northwest District honors. Senior lineman Mason Ringler, senior running back Adison Remyer and senior quarterback Hayden Kuhn all earned first team on offense while Barker, Shawn Bailey and Caden Cunningham were first teamers on defense.

Ringler played the entire season with a torn ACL and was still impactful helping the Cougars score 36.8 points per game while going 12-1 and winning the Firelands Conference championship for the third consecutive season.

Reymer was a do-it-all player for the Cougars. He finished with 1,395 yards on 196 carries and 20 touchdowns while Kuhn was his usual self throwing for 1,400-plus yards and 15 TDs.

Bailey earned first team honors at linebacker after piling up 87 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, seven QB pressures, two interceptions, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Cunningham had a standout season in the defensive secondary with six interceptions and 13 pass-breakups.

Caleb Cunningham took second team honors as an offensive lineman and Devin Holloway was a second team kicker. Bryce Perkins, Michael Mays and Gavin Barker were honorable mention selections.

Crestview coach Steve Haverdill was named the Division VI Northwest District co-Coach of the Year along with Gary Quisno of Castalia Margaretta. Haverdill finished his fourth season with the Cougars and added the second consecutive undefeated regular season with a third straight FC title. He is 39-9 in his four seasons at the helm.
