Crestwood OKs Distinguished Alumni recommendations, spring sports appointments

Mar. 16—WRIGHT TWP. — At Thursday's monthly meeting the Crestwood School Board approved two recommendations to receive the district's "Distinguished Alumni Award:" Astronaut Bob Hines, class of 1993, and inventor Jim Cybulski, class of 1997. The district released information on both.

Hines served more than 23 years in the United States Air Force, has logged more than 4,000 hours of flight time in 50 different types of aircraft and flew 76 combat missions. Selected for the NASA Astronaut Candidate class in 2017, he served as pilot on the SpaceX Crew-4 mission to the International Space Station. The mission concluded Oct. 14, 2022.

Cybulski holds over a dozen patents and has co-founded three start up companies. He has worked in remote villages in Africa developing low-cost inventions, including the Foldscope, a paper microscope made for less than $1 in parts.

The board also approved a change order costing $20,981 for additional stage rigging repair work by Center Stage. The company was hired in August to do the repairs at a cost of $53,994, but Superintendent Natasha Milazzo said after the meeting that once the work began last week the company found additional needed repairs.

And the board approved spring sports appointments.

As head coaches: Football, Ryan Arcangeli at $8,315; girls soccer, Jimm Zabiegalski at $8,315; boys soccer, Hardy Pinto at $8,315; cross country, Robert Moulton at $5,436; girls tennis, Scott Lenio at $4,238; girls volleyball, Megan Genoble at $4,677; field hockey, Amanda Tredinnick at $8,315; and golf, Mark Jarolen at $4,240

In boys track, Kaily Orzechowski as assistant varsity at $633, Hilari Kilheeney as head jr. high at $3,491, Michael Harth as assistant varsity at $3,166, and three jr. high assistants: Dhara Jarvia at $1,588, Josh Hooper at $1,000 and Gina Jakubowski at $600.

In girls track, Andrew Nelson and Mike Kilheeny as assistant varsity at $1,266 each, and Avery Meredick and Alayna Martincheck at $3,188 each.

In baseball, with pay set at $2,329 each, Joe Dorbad as assistant varsity/junior varsity, Eric Rinehimer as assistant varsity, Don Flynn as assistant varsity/head junior high, and Tom Borum, Jason McManus and Donnie Hopkins as assistant junior high.

In tennis, Anthony Deluca as assistant varsity at $2,329.

The board also:

—Renewed the food service contract with Metz Culinary for the 2023-24 school year, setting breakfast prices at $1.60 for elementary students and $1.95 for secondary students, and lunches at $2.85 and $3 respectively. Paid adult meal rates will be $2.55 for breakfast and $4.25 for lunch.

—Appointed Shannon Phelan as part-time general food service worker/server at $18.14 per hour, with a 60-day probationary period at 10% less; April McKeown as full-time custodian, and Rachel Kaslavage as part-time general food service worker/server.

—Accepted the resignation of head cheerleading coach Allison Button.
