Crew Hoists Injured Hiker Out of California Canyon

California emergency workers dealt with “swirling winds and a tight insertion point” to rescue an injured hiker by helicopter from a canyon in Orange County on Monday, April 8.

Video from the Orange County Fire Authority shows two people being hoisted out of the canyon. The team said it had lowered a paramedic to treat the hiker, before lifting the two out together.

Despite the challenging conditions, the rescue operation was “flawless,” the fire authority said. Credit: Orange County Fire Authority via Storyful
