Crewmen Trapped Aboard Overturned Ship Rescued and Taken to Safety

Four crewmen who had been trapped aboard the overturned Golden Ray cargo ship near St Simon’s Sound in Brunswick, Georgia, were rescued and taken to safety on September 9.

According to the Coast Guard, the 656-foot Golden Ray – a vehicle carrier – listed, capsized, and had a fire on board on September 8. A number of crews mobilized to save those on board the vessel, and all marine traffic into the port of Brunswick was halted, the Maritime Executive reported.
